Donna Karan saves the World

I love how a Hong Kong mag manages to get all these exclusive interviews, and they're really interesting too. I wish Tatler would stop the subscription policy on their website. I really would have loved to feature the Ballerina......

Anyway, check this out. An interview with Donna Karan in Prestige Hong Kong. She speaks about how she's trying to make this world a better place.

Yohji The Mystery in Prestige Hong Kong

Prestige Hong Kong featured a lovely interview with Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto this month. He was in Beijing for his show and to auction off the pieces for his charity organization, Yohji Yamamoto Fund for Peace. The proceeds will sponsor a Chinese designer to study fashion in Europe or Japan for 2 years. Also, a Chinese female model will be sponsored to take part in Paris Fashion Week.

In the interview the legend also talks about his daughter Limi Yamamoto who designs under his label Limi Feu. See waht lies beneath.

The Cut

Check out Nina Garcia's final interview in the May issue of Hong Kong's Prestige magazine before she got sacked at Elle. The interview is very interesting as it also raises the question of motherhood in the fashion industry. Vivienne Tang spoke to Nina Garcia before she came back to New York and split from Elle magazine. Read what she says about the competitive nature of her job and what might have been the cause for the split.....Garcia must have known that her position was precarious.
“Yes, there is a lot of pressure,” she concedes. “But having my son is a very big source of strength. You have to keep it all in perspective. Some people can be very jealous, competitive or mean. But I think that happens in every business. It’s a little more highlighted in the fashion industry, because it’s a creative business. What happens when it’s creative … nobody knows how long they’re going to be there. The turnover is very quick. So people get even more insecure about their jobs and positions, the hierarchy. It’s silly! But you have to keep it in perspective. It’s only fashion.”
Yeah right it's only fashion!?! Now let's see if she's really that laid back about it as she says she is. Anyway we wish her all the luck in the world.....but perhaps she should just enjoy playtime with her son!!

Head to Toe with Tom Ford

I love this magazine! It is from Hong Kong, but it still brings us world exclusive interviews revealing stuff we've never heard before. Last month it was Karl, this month it's the man himself, Tom Ford. Again Stephen Short interviewed the legend who revived Gucci and YSL and who now has his own bespoke line. He tells Prestige Hong Hong how he wants to dress Barack Obama and raise a child. How's that for some insider news! One of my favourite quotes is...."When you're standing in a room, your effect on that room is the same as a chair's effect, or a sculpture. You're part of someone's view." So you better dress up guys, you don't want to ruin someone's view now, would you!?

Check out the full interview here!

Karl the Kaiser

This is the best interview I've read in a while! Karl Lagerfeld unrated!! The Kaiser sits down with Prestige's Stephen Short to discuss skinny models, love, Chanel and how he hates kids. The solar system exclusive interview goes behind the scene and shows Karl in a way we've never seen him before. Check out the whole interview here. It's very good, hmm!
