Collaborations-a-go-go

If Pharrell can do it, then so can Kanye. The rapper with the famous “Stronger” glasses is collaborating with Louis Vuitton on a range of men’s shoes. But no, I doesn’t stop there. Louis Vuitton is on a roll. The luxury label also announced a partnership with the ultimate fashion rebel, Rei Kawakubo from Comme des Garçons. They will open a joint Tokyo store in September, a three-month space where shoppers can order six one-off bags in LV monogram pattern, designed by the Japanese designer. Some might consider this an innovative cooperation, while others believe that they are sleeping with the enemy. But either way, there’s a great similarity between this collaboration and Yohji’s bag for Hermès…

My Beijing Yohji trip

I went through my archive of photos and realized that I never posted the Yohji Beijing pics I took when I was there. Here they are.

Yohji The Mystery in Prestige Hong Kong

Prestige Hong Kong featured a lovely interview with Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto this month. He was in Beijing for his show and to auction off the pieces for his charity organization, Yohji Yamamoto Fund for Peace. The proceeds will sponsor a Chinese designer to study fashion in Europe or Japan for 2 years. Also, a Chinese female model will be sponsored to take part in Paris Fashion Week.

In the interview the legend also talks about his daughter Limi Yamamoto who designs under his label Limi Feu. See waht lies beneath.

Yohji with a pearl earring

First he's doing Ballet flats with Repetto, then he's teaming up with Doc Martens and now it's pearls with Mikimoto. Focus Yohji, focus! ....Yamamoto and the Japanese jewelry brand have announced plans for a project set to debut this autumn, when they will align their talents to create an unprecedented series of fine jewelry collections. The designer, now in his 35th year of revolutionizing the way women dress, will apply his creative vision to Mikimoto, a leading purveyor of the world’s most luxurious pearls for 114 years.
The collection of 20 pieces, comprising three groups, will range in price from approximately US$2,500 to US$150,000 and include necklaces, pendants, earrings, rings, and bracelets.
Starting in November 2007, the distribution will be limited to the Yohji Yamamoto and the 19 freestanding Mikimoto stores worldwide, as well as select points of sales in the United States. In 2008, the distribution will be expanded in Europe and Asia.

Yamamoto is coming to Hong Kong on April 18. Maybe we'll get some answers then....
